The Green Room Society

Founded in 1924, the Wilmslow Green Room Society is one of the oldest Amateur Dramatic Societies in the UK. In the beginning we were “strolling players” performing wherever a venue could be found. In 1989, after a superb fund raising effort, a victorian cottage and an old shirt factory were converted into a modern theatre. After 65 years the society had its own home.

For further information see the society’s website.

Measles jab warning to all parents

An outbreak of measles in Wilmslow has triggered a mass vaccination programme for all children in the area.

Health officials are warning all teenagers and primary pupils to get the MMR vaccine to ward off an epidemic.

Now a race is on to ensure children are immunised before their return to school – a perfect breeding ground for the virus.

Sixteen victims have already been confirmed in Wilmslow since the beginning of July, with patients ranging from 10 months to fifteen years old.

Two children were admitted to hospital but have since recovered and been allowed home.

The other children are all said to be recovering well.

All cases were in children who had not been vaccinated.

For further information read the Manchester Evening News article on the outbreak.

Blood found in park

Twinnies Bridge

Police are appealing for witnesses who can help them solve the riddle of a mystery puddle of human blood found in a Wilmslow car park.

Forensic tests on the blood, which was found early on Wednesday (August 18) morning in Twinnies Bridge Car Park, revealed that it was from a human rather than animal.

Experts are now trying to match the DNA profile to identify the blood’s owner.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Until further information is known, police cannot determine whether the blood found is as a result of an accident or something more sinister.”

A section of the car park, near a footbridge running over the River Bollin, was cordoned off by police until 4pm on Wednesday while crime scene investigators gathered evidence.
